He was named Pharmacist of the Year by the
Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) in 1992 and was inducted into its Hall
of Honor in 1993 in recognition of his service and dedication to the practice of pharmacy. In 2002 the MPA awarded
Professor Vivian the Executive Board Medal in recognition of his activities to
promote the profession of pharmacy. He has presented numerous continuing
education lectures and seminars for and
on behalf of the MPA and has testified before the Michigan legislature on
pending legislation affecting pharmacists and pharmacy practice. He is the Contributing Editor of the MPA’s Pharmacy Law
Update Service and author of the

Professor Vivian
served as a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Code of
Ethics Revision Committee that produced the 1994 Code of Ethics for Pharmacists.
He is also an editorial reviewer for APhA's Journal and has presented
several papers and lectures at the APhA Annual Meeting.

In 1996, Professor Vivian was elected President of
the American Society for Pharmacy Law
(ASPL), a national organization dedicated to educating lawyers and pharmacists about legal issues affecting the
practice of pharmacy. He completed a three-year term as an Officer of ASPL. He
has served as a reviewer for paper submissions to the ASPL Annual Writing
Competitions and has authored the Caselaw Update chapter in several editions of
the ASPL Annual Law Review. In addition, he has presented the Annual Caselaw
Update lectures for several years at the ASPL Annual Convention and at the APHA
Annual Meeting sponsored by the ASPL. In 2007 a paper he coauthored, “OBRA 90 at Sweet Sixteen” which was
chosen by ASPL for its Research Paper of the Year. In 2009, he was awarded the
Joseph Fink III founder’s Award for contributions to pharmacy, law and ASPL.

He is the author of several publications
dealing with pharmacy law and ethics. In 1997, he was named as an Editor and
co-author of Pharmacy Law Digest, 31st
edition, published by Facts and Comparisons.
This publication is updated annually, with the 40th edition released
in 2006. He co-authored the “Laws
Governing Pharmacy” chapter in the 20th edition of Remington: The Science of
Pharmacy Practice and is the lead author of that chapter for the 21st edition
published in 2005. In 1991, he began writing monthly columns on
legal issues for Drug Topics and,
since 1994, has been featured in the US
Pharmacist “Legal Considerations” series. He is also a Contributing
Editor for the journal. Professor Vivian
is the Co-author of Ethical Perspectives:
Guidelines for Dealing with Ethics in Pharmacy Practice, a teaching
manual used extensively in the Colleges of Pharmacy throughout this country and

At Wayne State University, Professor Vivian
teaches courses on professional ethics, drug regulation, health care law and
health care policy for pharmacy students, inter-disciplinary groups and at the
law school. He is the recipient of six teaching excellence awards from his
students and University colleagues. He served a term as the Associate Chair in
